Jim Carone

Carone takes over as Green Terror skipper for the 2022 campaign. 

Just the 16th coach in program history, he spent the last 10 seasons as the head coach at Division I Wagner College.

During his tenure at Wagner, he posted 207 wins, becoming just the second coach in Wagner program history to reach the 200-win plateau. The 2015 and 2018 Northeast Conference (NEC) Coach of the Year, Carone had five players selected in the annual Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft since 2013, which included four that had eligibility remaining. Four of those players have advanced to at least the Double-A level and two have received promotions to their respective big-league clubs.

Carone guided the 2018 Wagner squad to a 38-18 record and to the NEC title game. The 38 wins were the most in program history and his 21 NEC wins were also the most in program history, good enough to be co-regular season champions – the first for the Seahawks since 2009. The 2018 season capped a run of four NEC tournament berths in five seasons.

Carone has served as the chair of the NEC coaches’ committee and served on the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee from 2015-19, including as committee chair in 2018 and 2019.

Prior to Wagner, he served four seasons as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Villanova. Four of his Wildcat pitchers were drafted in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

He also spent time as an assistant coach at Rider (2006-08), Wagner (2005-06), Stevens (2004-05), and New Jersey Institute of Technology (2003-04).

During his playing days at Division I Monmouth, he was a captain during his senior season. He was a first-team All-Northeast Conference selection and was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Year as a junior when he went 10-3 on the mound with a 2.21 ERA in 97 2/3 innings.

Carone graduated from Monmouth in 2003 with a degree in business administration and marketing.
